ABOUT  ME

I'm a died-in-the-wool car guy. I dreamed of working as a stylist in Detroit and got accepted to Pratt Institute's industrial design program, but the raw talent around me whispered that I needed to find another path to the industry. That path was through the auto enthusiast magazine business, where I spent 20 fantastic years engaged in my passion...and my career. Road & Track and Automobile represented the bulk of those years and I had the privilege of meeting/befriending and understudying the irrepressible David E. Davis, Jr. during a 9 year stint at Automobile. I later teamed with DED as launch Editor and Publisher of WindingRoad.com.

Mechanical Credentials:

I'm called to the Dean's office during one of my senior year High School classes. I arrive to find the Dean holding the phone with my Mother on the line.  "There's a UPS driver at the front door with a huge box and saying it is COD!  What are you doing??" I instructed Mom to go in my sock drawer and find the cash to pay the man. What was in the box?  Enough hard-core parts to turn the 1600cc dual port engine in my 1971 Beetle into a bona-fide189HP street terror. I've been building cars and engines ever since, and I have my Dad to thank for 'hey, I can do this' attitude that he carried with him.

I have built Porsche 911 engines, big-block Chevys, VW air-cooled engines, and most recently a Cosworth Vega engine as part of a barn-find restoration. I am a careful and precise mechanic who insists on doing it the right way with the right tools. There are precious few shortcuts.
