suspension/brakes/wheels/tires

The suspension, brakes, running gear, wheels and tires consumed a disproportionate amount of time and focus as every possible effort was extended to assure that the total underbody of #3283 would appear as it did the day it rolled-off the assembly line in Lordstown.  All of the driveline components carried their fair share of surface rust that when removed revealed solid materials that were prepared, primed and refinished to present a very finished appearance.  The result is seen in the accompany gallery of photos.  No part or assembly was left untouched. Not one.

In appropriate cases, new parts were installed to replace pieces that gained my concern: remanufactured front brake calipers; all new hard and flex brake lines; new wheel cylinders; new fuel lines and rebuilt high-pressure fuel pump from Fuel Injection Corp in Tracy, Californina.  All seals and gaskets were replaced throughout the car, reasoning that 3.200 miles of use and 40 years of life suggested that these items had timed-out.

One comment often heard in Cosworth Vega circles is that fluid leaks are part of the ownership experience. Having restored #2315 and learned through the experience of eliminating any fluid leaks on that car, #3283 issues not one single drop of fluid anywhere!
